The Motor Maxs Prestige Collector s Series has created this beautifully World War II replica of Lockheed Martins P 38 "Lightning" that is made of high quality die cast metal and realistic detailed military markings. The P 38 comes with its own sleek black stand showcasing the P 38s with a panoramic unique display embracing the reputation of the P 38 as a revolutionary fighter for the time and one of the most important American fighter aircraft of World War II. During that era the twin boom and turbo superchargers engines on the P 38 made it the fastest fighter plane in the American Arsenal. The tricycle landing gear made it one of the leading planes in our aviation history. The first models of the Lockheed Martins P 38 "Lightning" was accepted by the Army Air Force in October 1941 and by the end of the war nearly 10 000 had rolled from the production lines. From introduction until 1945 many modifications were made in the original design to comply with the needs of the air services. On April 18 1943 a flight of P 38s downed Japans great naval strategist Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto while he was flying on an inspection tour of the Solomon Islands. Due to its unusual configuration the Lightning was dubbed the fork tailed Devil by the Luftwaffe and two airplanes with one pilot by the Japanese grudging respect earned by its formidable appearance and reputation. *The P 38s is 7 inches long 3 12 inches tall (on the stand) or 2 (without stand) and has a wing span is of 10 inches*
